About
Cardiff Shobukan was founded in 1980 in order to follow the Aikido left to us by O'Sensei through the teaching of the present Doshu and the Hombu Dojo.
Since its early days Kanetsuka Shihan has been a frequent visitor of ours and along with naming the dojo he has guided our practice over the years.
Cardiff Shobukan has had the privilege of hosting courses with many other senior Aikido Instructors: Okumura Shihan, Chiba Shihan, Shibata Shihan, Miyazawa Shihan, Ken Cottier Shihan and Mathew Holland Shihan. Giving Aikido Students in Cardiff and South Wales a wide experience of the practice of Aikido.
In recent years Shobukan members of all grades have travelled to Japan to train at Hombu Dojo in Tokyo attending the Doshus classes and those of other Hombu instructors. Besides experiencing Aikido at its highest level they have made lasting friendships with fellow students of Aikido in Japan.
Cardiff Shobukan welcomes new members to share in its practice and experience of Aikido and welcomes all visitors to our Dojos.
Peter Gillard Shidoin

Peter Started Aikido in 1966 at the Cardiff School of Budo. When this closed the Cardiff Aikikai was formed with Colin Pike as its head instructor. Cardiff Aikikai joined the Aikikai of Great Britain under the direction of Chiba Shihan.
In About 1969 Cardiff Aikikai separated from Chiba Shihan and after a period within the organisation of Ken WIlliams Sensei went on its own under the direction of Mr Pike.
After a few years, along with a group of other yudansha, Peter left the Cardiff Aikikai and rejoined the now renamed British Aikido Federation. Following this in 1980 Cardiff Shobukan was founded.
In 1998 Peter paid his first visit to Hombu Dojo in Tokyo and has since returned several times. Peter has a close relationship with many senior instructors in both Europe and Japan.
His main aim is to open the door to fellow students and share the practice of Aikido given to us by O'Sensei.
